3.7 Address flooding and pursue mitigation efforts.

Action Item Description
Manhattan’s history of flooding is storied, with hundreds of acres of property in mapped floodplains today that have the potential to affect thousands of people in any given event. Manhattan must continue to build upon recent work to comprehensively understand flooding problems throughout the City, including urban flooding. In doing so, the City should develop sound solutions to better protect lives and property from flooding, as well as help residents, business owners, and property owners be more resilient when a flood does occur. Additionally, establishing a reliable, dedicated funding source for ongoing mitigation efforts will facilitate the community’s resiliency initiatives.
